This position will start at ~10 hours per week, with general flow and availability determined by the contractor. It is expected that the first and third quarters will require more weekly hours then the other quarters. NACPM does not anticipate this position being greater than 20 hours a week in the next year and is hopeful it will eventually grow into a full-time staff position. Pay will be between $25 - $30, commensurate with experience and skills.
Overview
As an Legislative and Policy Advisor at NACPM, you will directly support the Executive Director in a remote capacity. This role demands high state legislative analysis, spreadsheet proficiency, and writing letters of support/non-support of proposed legislation/policies. The ideal candidate should have a robust Internet connection and proficiency in communication technologies such as Zoom. A key aspect of this position involves handling data, including inputting, exporting, and organizing data files, requiring proficiency with CSV files and spreadsheet management. Your ability to independently manage legislative and policy projects and produce quality work with minimal oversight is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Efficiently handle emails and phone calls
Coordinate and schedule meetings with legislators, chapter and association leaders, and key stakeholders
Maintain and update contact lists
Handle CSV file data processing
Develop presentations as required
Contribute to drafting sections of NACPM’s policy and procedures document
Undertake data entry tasks
Create surveys
Complete quality assurance on all legislative data
Create maps in Tableau using the data NACPM has collected
Qualifications and Skills
Established knowledge of CPM credential and limitations/challenges with licensing
Proven experience in state or federal legislative advocacy role
Strong communication abilities
Teamwork oriented
Proficient in project planning and critical thinking
Familiar with digital collaboration tools and cloud services
Skilled in report writing and drafting narratives
Quick learner of new software systems
Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software
Knowledgeable in online calendar management (e.g., Google Calendar)
Excellent communication skills across phone, email, and messaging platforms
Effective time management and organizational skills
High school diploma required; additional qualifications are advantageous
Desirable Additional Experience
Experience in direct-entry midwifery, birth center, doula, or lactation legislative or regulation creation
Grassroots coalition building experience
Creating simple training materials and videos
Experience creating visual graphics in Tableau
