Invitation to Participate in Birth Worker Study to understand how community birth workers view and respond to racial disparities in maternal mortality, infant mortality, and maternal morbidity

Kelley Akhiemokhali , a sociology doctoral student at The Graduate Center, The City University of New York (CUNY) is focusing her PhD research on inequality and adverse birth outcomes. More specifically, she explores how community birth workers address racial disparities in adverse birth outcomes.

This research study’s purpose is to understand how community birth workers view and respond to racial disparities in maternal mortality, infant mortality, and maternal morbidity.  As an expression of appreciation, a $40 e-Visa gift card will be given to all who complete the interview.

The interview, which will take place over Zoom, will focus on a person’s pathway to becoming a birth worker; philosophy and model of care; health disparities; and the extent to which state and federal laws impact birthing centers.
