Join the Urban Perinatal Education Center (UPEC) in partnership with the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) as we work towards establishing a community-based midwifery workforce in Rhode Island and enhancing perinatal outcomes in the State of Rhode Island. The mission at UPEC revolves around fostering perinatal equity through culturally congruent care and community, supporting equity in care, and building a workforce for change. Through the Maternal Health Innovation grant, UPEC is implementing the Certified Professional Midwifery (CPM) Initiative alongside other maternal health projects with RIDOH. This collaborative effort aims to cultivate a culturally competent midwifery program, attracting a more diverse student body to provide concordant care to people of reproductive age in Rhode Island. Executive Director and Founder, Quatia Osorio, emphasizes the importance of this initiative in addressing the gaps left by the closure of RI Home Birth, ensuring accessible and culturally reflective birthing options for our community. Join us in shaping the future of perinatal care one state at a time!
