NACPM Celebrates the Progress of US MERA!
In alignment with our mission to contribute to a transformed maternity care system in the U.S. and increased access for all women to high-quality care and normal, physiologic birth options, NACPM is pleased to announce the release of a new report: The History and Future of the United States Midwifery Education, Regulation and Association (US MERA) Joint Project.
NACPM celebrates the progress made by this partnership to date, and remains committed to the work still left to be done for the sake of women, babies and families in our country. Please read the full report, or the Executive Summary, for information about this historic initiative, and send us your questions, feedback and thoughts for the future to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Normal, Healthy Childbirth for Women & Families: What You Need to Know
A woman’s guide to understanding normal, healthy birth and how it can improve the health of her baby and her health was released this summer by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA), and National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM). It includes critical information to help women make informed decisions and avoid possibly unnecessary and expensive medical interventions, such as cesarean sections. The National Association of Certified Professional Midwives envisions a new era of maternity care in the US, with a unified profession of midwifery that is free from racism and oppression. We are dedicated to the creation of a primary maternity care system in which midwives are the point of entry for every woman, without barriers to care or disparities in maternal and child outcomes.
NACPM's purpose is to support the education, practice, and advancement of CPMs and inspire and engage them to be an organized force for change to increase access to high quality, high value maternity care for all women.
- Advocates for CPMs to the public, to state and federal legislators and to health care policy makers
- Addresses barriers to practice for CPMs including reimbursement and advocacy for a path to licensure for CPMs in all 50 states
- Secures a “seat at the table” for CPMs in the larger maternity care world by representing CPMs in national coalitions and to other national organizations
- Participates on behalf of CPMs in key national collaborations to improve maternity care
- Provides clinical practice resources and support to CPMs
